Useful things to remember!

During the event there will be a number of road closures - please see below some useful information on the frequently asked questions about travelling to the event.

What roads will be affected?

The event will cover approximately 20 miles of the City’s highways there may be some disruption or restriction to your usual means of access to your premises.  We will try our best to maintain access and re-open roads as quickly as possible.  However, this will be dependent upon the numbers of people viewing the event as safety will always be our priority. However, please note that these are only approximate and may be subject to change during the event.  There is no guarantee that the roads will re-open exactly at the times specified, however the City Council will endeavour to re-open as many roads as possible when it is safe to do so in order to minimise the disruption to residents, businesses and road users.

Please see the full road closures list here.

How long will they be closed for?

We will try our best to maintain access and re-open roads as quickly as possible.  However, this will be dependent upon the numbers of people viewing the event as safety will always be our priority. Whilst the giants rest during the day, roads will remain closed for considerably longer. This will affect the Waterfront (all three days), Chinese Arch area (Friday), Lime Street and Old Haymarket (Friday and Saturday).

Will there be a signed diversion?

With the major closures there will be a signed diversion. There will be no signed diversions when roads are closed as the ‘Giants’ move along the route.

Will there be access for the emergency blue light service?

There will be emergency access for all blue light services along all routes at all times.

What do i do if I need access for visitors or deliveries?

Unfortunately if it is not an emergency access will not be permitted whilst the event is in in your area. There may be some disruption or restriction to your usual means of access and egress to your premises.  We will try our best to maintain access and re-open roads as quickly as possible. Plan early and arrange for deliveries on another day and ensure that visitors arrive in time before road closures go in.

For just £10, up to two adults and three children can enjoy unlimited off-peak travel on the Merseyrail network for an entire day. Or buy a Day Saver ticket, which start from £3.60 for adults or £2.40 for children and follow the giants all day. The Merseyrail network will be busy during the Giants parade, so we advise that you give plenty of time for your journey and use Moorfields station to access Liverpool city centre where possible.

James Street station will close from 4pm to 8pm on Saturday 26 July and from 11am to 3pm on Sunday 27 July when the Giants pass by the station. Passengers travelling to or from the Wirral are advised to use Moorfields station during this time.

During the Giants Festival alterations will be made to the Merseyrail timetable to allow services to be strengthened. On busy routes, 3 car trains will be strengthened to 6 car trains when possible and additional services will run. In order to do this, amends will be made to timetabled services.

Merseyrail advise that you use their journey planner at www.merseyrail.org to plan your journey and to follow @merseyrail on Twitter for live travel information
